Weekly rehearsal log for Rock Of Ages #2
MON 18TH
When it came to todays rehearsal we went over the opening number and finished it off with the help from two ex students of the course. Overall today we all focused very well to learn what we needed to learn to add onto and finish the opening number. At the moment there are still some parts of the dance which need cleaning up or learning a bit more, but the quality so far is very impressive. Today I felt I was a lot more focused in the rehearsal which was very helpful in allowing me to pick up the chorography that was taught today.
WED 20TH
In todays lesson we did some singing of some of the songs that we had already covered in pervious singing rehearsals and also learn some harmonies of new songs. Everyone in todays lesson worked their hardest despite some being ill and unable to sing as they would normally, but this didn't effect the quality of the work. Personally for me, I found that in this rehearsal I worked well with my peers as we helped each other on harmonies that we did quite get so that we could all understand what we needed to sing.
THU 21ST
In todays lesson we started working on the dance and choreography for sister Christian and we also went over the opening number that we had already done so we could keep it fresh in our minds. When it comes to sister Christian we had already learnt the song so this helped aid us when it came to putting lyrics with dance moves. Personally, I struggled a bit today with the choreography because of the speed of the dance that we were doing and I also felt that I didn't get enough time to learn what I needed to. However, after going over it a bit more I felt a little more confident. Despite this though, I do plan to take some time to go over the dance a bit more.
FRI 22ND
In Todays lesson me and the other year 13's came in for an hour to work on more of the songs for Rock of Ages and unfortunately our teacher was doing Jury service so we had to run the rehearsal ourselves. Today we mainly cleaned up harmonies of songs we had previously done and made sure that they were as clean as they could be. In this lesson I could feel that my diction was starting to get a lot clearer, especially with the American accent that I was putting on. Overall todays lesson, even though it was quite short, was very successful.
VIDEOS FROM THE WEEK
SMART TARGET + IMPROVEMNET REVIEW
When it comes to this week, even though its only been a couple weeks I have seen a steady improvement in my overall confidence in the show. For me I have never directly worked in the style of rock, so all the songs and the over all style was new to me, however I have found that this style of music and show has made me feel a lot more confident in my performance ability.
When it comes to my vocal range however, I have found that there has not been much of an improvement just yet, this is as I have found areas of songs strain my voice as they are to high to sing. I do understand that It has not been to long into the rehearsal schedule, so I am going to be giving this more time to hopefully see an improvement.
One skill that I have seen improving over time is my accent. For me I have always struggled with doing an American accent. Through the range of vocal warm ups and exercises that we have been doing I can tell that my accent is becoming stronger which I am glad to see, and hopefully this will keep to improve.
