Weekly rehearsal log for Rock Of Ages #1

MON 11TH

Monday the 11th was the day that we did auditions for the show Rock of Ages. Going into the audition I was quite nervous and scared about how it was going to go and felt a little under prepared as I only found out recently about the audition. Once I came out of the audition however I felt that it went quite well. I felt that I gave all I could to my performance and singing, but there was definitely room for improvement, For example: Make sure to take more time to learn the audition material, Research more onto the performance and warm up my vocals more before hand.

WED 13TH

On Wednesday the 13th, we did our first sing throughs of some of the songs for Rock of Ages. In this lesson, It was a combination of both the year 12's and 13's. We did a lot of work on harmonies for the first few songs of the shows. For me, picking up the harmonies was easy work and wasn't to hard nor stressful, but the thing I struggled most with was the timing of coming in with these harmonies. I feel that with time I will be able to work on this as I get more familiar with the songs and the voice of people that I am working with this year for the show.

THU 14TH

In Todays lesson we worked on the opening number for Rock of Ages:  Feel the noize. In this number I am playing my part as a waitress whilst also dancing and singing as a part of the ensemble. When it comes to the number itself, we got through a very big chunk of it today and I felt like the learning of it went quite well in itself. Personally, I feel that I could have brought a bit more character to my performance but this is something that I will work on with time and in future rehearsals.

FRI 15TH

In Todays lesson me and the other year 13's came in for an hour to work on more of the songs for Rock of Ages. Today we mainly cleaned up harmonies of songs we had previously done and made sure that they were as clean as they could be whilst also doing some new songs that we had yet touched. In this lesson I could feel that my diction was starting to get a lot clearer, especially with the American accent that I was putting on. Overall todays lesson, even though it was quite short, was very successful.

SMART TARGET + IMPROVEMNET REVIEW

When it comes to this week, as this was only the start of the rehearsals for this show I have not made to much progress on my smart targets as I have not had much time to work on them so far. So over the next couple of weeks I will be taking time to do exercises and vocal warmups to improve my range. Along with this, I feel that the more I perform this show and rehearse it, my over all confidence in this musical will grow as I have never been or worked in the style of rock.
