Weekly rehearsal blog for rock of ages #7
MON 30TH
In todays rehearsal we did a full run through of the show, this included act 1 + act 2. For me this rehearsal was very helpful not only so that I could get notes on my performance but also so that I could make sure that I knew what I was doing and when as the order of the show was still quite loose in my head. For me I felt that I performed to a high quality but there was definitely areas where I could tell my performance was weak due to not being sure what I was doing. For me, One of my very weak areas in the show was I wanna rock as I was very unsure what the movements and timing are for this number, so I plan to go back over this with my fellow cast mates. However, this rehearsal was very successful and helped me highlight any grey areas in my memory.
TUE 31ST
Unfortunately I was off ill for this rehearsal due to not being in the best health that day. However, I made sure to spend some of the time I was off to watch back old videos from our rehearsal process so that I could keep up to date with the numbers.
WED 1ST
In todays rehearsal we started off with a singing + movement warmup that consisted of doing the number Don't stop believing. By doing this number, as it is very physically and vocally demanding it was a great way to start the rehearsal and warmup.
act 1 + 2 singing/staging - Bows - full run
THU 2ND
Unfortunately due to flooding not everyone was able to make it into today rehearsal, so there was a very little amount of us in college. So to make sure that we were being productive, we took time to organise the props into acts so that they were ready for the show and also finished off painting the banners for the show. After this we took some time to go over the staging of some of the numbers that we were all involved in. For me, although this was a very simple rehearsal it was very helpful and enjoyable to be a part of. I felt that I could definitely tell that my recall of the numbers had improved a lot, which was very good to see that I was able to recall them easier than I used to be able to.
FRI 3RD
When it came to todays rehearsal we spent sometime going over the singing and the staging of the whole show. This rehearsal was helpful as it gave me more time to work on my harmonies for the show, which allowed me to become a lot more vocally confident in my abilities. Along with this, as we were doing the movements along side this, it helped me link lyrics with movements which will help me be able to be on time not only with my singing but also my movements. For me this rehearsal was very helpful for my recall ability.
VIDEOS FROM THE WEEK
SMART TARGETS + IMPROVEMENTS
From the rehearsals this week I felt that there was not as much improvements as there had been compared to last week. For me, I feel that my vocal range over this whole rehearsal process has improved masses and I feel wont improve much more over the rehearsal time. So for me I am going to be focusing more on my diction. This is as I feel that with the American accent my diction was getting weaker. So to strengthen this I will be taking regular time to do tongue twisters, especially while doing an American accent so that it will help strengthen my diction with that accent.
Along with this, I feel that my stage presence has also improved masses over the rehearsal process and I feel that it is up to the highest quality it can be. There are still a couple areas where I drop character as I am unsure how to fill the time, But I feel this is something that will improve more with confidence. So I will be taking time to grow my Confidence on stage so that I am able to play my part a lot stronger.
