Weekly Progress blog #8

TUE 7

In todays lesson, it was quite a long day, In which we ran through the whole show, act 1 and act 2. For me this was a very helpful rehearsal as it allowed me to lock into my brain the choreography on the show and help me identify the couple of areas where I did the wrong leg or arm. Along with this it gave me more time to consider my character and how I wanted to act in areas of the show that I had to fill looking like I was doing my job as a waitress. For me this it consisted of my cleaning glasses and chairs. Along with this, during this run it also helped me discover where and when I need to move set pieces like chairs so that they were ready for the number and I had to make sure to do this in a natural way. In conclusion, after todays rehearsal, even though it was successful overall, It let me know where and what I needed to work on.

WED 8

When it came to todays rehearsal we spent sometime going over the singing and the staging of the whole show. This rehearsal was helpful as it gave me more time to work on my harmonies for the show, which allowed me to become a lot more vocally confident in my abilities. Along with this, It also gave me some time to go over numbers that I was slightly unsure of which arm or leg I was using. For me this rehearsal was very helpful for my recall ability.

THU 9

In todays rehearsal, this was the first day that we were finally on the set and working on the stage we are using for the show. At the start of the day we were given a health and safety briefing which made sure that as a cast we were aware of how to stay safe on stage and off stage. After this we then went into a run of act 1 in which we focused on adjusting staging so that the numbers in the show worked and looked effective from an audience perspective. For me, this was a very long rehearsal, but it was definitely needed as some piece of set were moved from how they were originally. After we had done act one, we then went ahead and did some of act to along with blind programming for the lights.  Although todays rehearsal was long and tiring, it was effective as I was now area how to use and go around the new set that was put in place along with my confirmed places in the show.

FRI 10

In todays rehearsal we did the first tech run of our show. It was quite a long and chaotic day however it gave us time to make sure that the show itself ran smoothly when it came to the technical side of the show. Unfortunately we still did not have the band with us so sounds levels when it comes to the music were not considered and tested as much. The main focus was going through the show number by number slowly so that we could run each number and plot the lighting and special effects used in the numbers. For me this run was very long and gave me a run to adjust to the new set not having done the show on the set properly yet. This rehearsal was more for the tech team than it was for me and the cast but it still gave us time to adjust to the set and recall our movements.

SMART TARGETS + IMPROVEMENTS

When it came to my smart targets I have changed them for the next week before the show and the week of the show, and these are diction and confidence.

Diction is something that I greatly needed to focus on when it came to this show as due to the nature and pitch of the American accent it sometimes blurs and mutes the diction when it comes to speaking. So for me, over this week, I took time to do tongue twisters in an American accent so that I could really focus on my diction and articulation. Along with this, sometimes I would use lines of the show and songs as well. Overall, over this past week I felt that I have had a slight improvement when it comes to my diction especially in an accent.

When it comes to my confidence, I felt that it however slightly dropped this week, but this may have been due to the new setting that I was performing the show in. Hopefully my confidence will boost over the next week and during the shows as I get more familiar with the set and the lighting of the show.
