Weekly Rehearsal log for Rock of Ages #5
MON 9TH
When it comes to todays rehearsal we worked on the number, Don't stop believing. This number is the final number of the show. We started off by singing through the number for a bit and then we went straight into the choreography. The choreography itself is quite simple having simple moves happening on certain lines/ words of the song. Personally I felt that todays rehearsal went quite well as we were able to complete a whole number within our rehearsal time.
TUE 10TH
Today we had a shorter after college rehearsal in which we went over the whole of act one and ran it through. For it being our first run through, I felt that it went quite well overall as we where able to flow each scene into each other and made it run for the amount of time it needed to. For me, doing this run helped me highlight areas where I knew I needed to re-cap dance sections or dialogue. Along with this, I discovered that I needed to get a more clear idea of the running order of the show so that it easier for me to remember when and where I am needed during the show.
Overall though, I felt that todays rehearsal went very well for a first run through.
WED 11TH
In todays lesson we worked through a range of songs in act 2, but we focused on don't stop believing. We started with a vocal warm up so that we could make sure that our voices and bodies were warm so that we could prevent injuries. At the start, it was quite a slow progression of the songs as we struggled to get some of the harmonies, however once we got through that song we made quite quick progress with a range of songs from act two. For me, I felt that this rehearsal went quite well and I could feel that my voice range has been improving as some songs that I struggled to sing before as they were to high or low became a lot easier to sing and were straining my voice less.
THU 12TH
In todays lesson we worked through the final countdown and don't stop believing. When it came to the final countdown we created this number in a staggered way. Firstly, we were spilt into groups of characters that would help us with the task of choreographing the number. For me, I played the character of a police officer where I spent most of the rehearsal making up my own set of movements I would use to beat up one of the protesters. For me, it was me and Alicia that worked together on one of the protesters due to the number of protesters we had in comparison to the number of police officers. For me, in this rehearsal, I realised I needed to work more on my own individual ability to create original moves by myself, as this is something that I was struggling with. At the end of the day we worked through Don't stop believing, this rehearsal mainly went through going over the number along with making sure that it was clean. Along with this, some of the movements where changed to make the number become more impactful.
FRI 13TH
In todays lesson we went over the songs from the shows, this meant making sure that harmonies were clean and clear. For me this rehearsal was very helpful as it helped me make sure that I knew my harmonies and that they were strong. In this rehearsal it also helped me work on areas of my harmonies that I was unsure off, and cause of this it made me feel a lot more confident in my singing in the show.
VIDEOS FROM THE WEEK:
SMART TARGET + IMPROVEMNET REVIEW
When it comes to this week, I felt quite confidence in my ability to perform the choreography of the show along with singing my correct harmonies and this can be seen through my overall confidence in the number that we have done this week. Personally, Compared to last week I have made a slight Improvement, but there are still grey areas which I plan to make sure that I go over so that they can be up to the quality of all the other parts of the show that I perform.
When it comes to my vocal range, this is something that I have felt has improved a lot over these past week as I am able to sing songs more smoothly without feel that my voice is straining and struggling to hit certain notes in the songs as much as last week. This has been aided through the exercises and warmups that I have been doing over these weeks not only in class but outside of class.
